Mission
To support and nurture literature within the community and the region by creating a welcoming and inclusive platform through a programme of varied cultural initiatives.
Vision
The Emirates Literature Foundation builds on the vision of Isobel Abulhoul OBE that continues to break down barriers through a common love of the written word. Inspired by the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, the Foundation aims to foster a life-long love of all forms of literature. Recognising the distinctive contribution that literature makes to children’s lives, the Emirates Literature Foundation focuses on introducing and cultivating a spirit of reading while acting as a catalyst for writing and cultural exchange.
About the Emirates Literature Foundation
The Emirates Literature Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation which supports and nurtures literature in the UAE and the region through a programme of varied cultural initiatives.
Established in 2013 by royal decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, the Foundation aims to foster a life-long love of all forms of literature. Recognising the importance of reading from a young age, the Foundation focuses on encouraging children and young people to enjoy reading for pleasure.
A key part of the Foundation’s initiatives includes showcasing international and regional writing talents through activities at the Dubai International Writers’ Centre which hosts a year-round programme of events in Arabic and English.
The Foundation is also the governing body of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, the UAE’s premiere literary festival, which will be held from 3-11 March, 2017.
