Alia Al Shamsi is a Dubai-based Emarati Author and Photographer.
After receiving a BA in Photography from Griffith University in 2004 she worked as a photojournalist for local newspapers covering regional and international news.
In 2008 she received a MA in Photo-Image from Durham University and has lectured on photography as an adjunct at the American University of Sharjah.
Her work has been exhibited internationally and has won her various awards including: the EDAAD Scholarship 2007, the British Council Cultural Leadership International Award 2010 and the Emirates Woman of the Year Award in the Artist category in 2011.
Al Shamsi’s recently published book Alayah has been awarded the support of Dubai Culture as part of their printing and publishing movement “Reading in Arabic Challenge”.
