David Mercer

David Mercer is a British sports broadcaster specialising in tennis, badminton and rowing.

He won the Welsh Junior Doubles title in 1968, and in 1969 captained his University tennis team.

After graduating with a Law Degree, Mercer qualified as a solicitor in 1973, and began practising in Swansea that year.

From 1973 to 1984 Mercer umpired at Wimbledon and at numerous other tournaments and Davis Cup ties.

He became a full-time broadcaster in 1984, working at BBC Radio and then at BBC Television. He has been a member of the BBC’s Wimbledon commentary team since 1985. Mercer is also a regular commentator for Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships since 1994.
