Considered to be one of the foremost authorities on the history of the United Arab Emirates, from the days when it was a number of sheikhdoms called the Trucial States, Frauke Heard-Bey is a historian and political scientist whose area of expertise is the social and political developments of the Gulf over four decades. Of great interest to her is the United Arab Emirates, where she has worked for thirty-nine years at the Centre for Documentation and Research.

Heard-Bey has written extensively about the region, as a result of amassing a wealth of knowledge pertaining to the Arabian Peninsula. She has published many articles in international journals and presented papers at conferences around the world.
