Laura Allais-Maré is the founder and current leader of the SLOW FOOD convivium in Dubai, a not-for-profit start-up registered in 2013 with the Community Development Authority in Dubai, which has been fully funded by herself and her husband.
A commitment to sharing knowledge and enabling people to become more responsible for the food they eat, where it comes from and how it is grown, Allais-Maré also initiated the Balcony and Urban Gardening group of the Middle East on Facebook, which has grown to almost 6500 members in less than 4 years.
Of Italian parentage, Allais-Maré was born and raised in South Africa.
