Born in the North of England, Tom Callaghan was educated at the University of York and Vassar College, New York.

After attending a crime-writing workshop at the 2011 Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, Callaghan wrote A Killing Winter, the first novel in a series featuring Kyrgyz Murder Squad Inspector Akyl Borubaev. The book has been published in English, German, Spanish and Portuguese.

The sequel, A Spring Betrayal, was published in early 2016.

An inveterate traveller, Callaghan divides his time between London, Prague, Dubai and Bishkek.
