Who are you most looking forward to seeing at the 2017 Festival?
At the 2017 edition of the Festival, I am so very excited to see TV executive producer Kathy Reichs because of the unique sense of storytelling that TV conveys, as well as Sana Amanat for her unique creation of Ms. Marvel and her narrative experience in comic books.
Which book has inspired you the most?
REPLAY by Ken Grimwood moved me tremendously for the question is raises of what you would do if given a second chance, and a third, or a fourth. LE K, a collection of short stories by Dino Buzzatti, is my go-to book for flights of fancy and groundbreaking storytelling. SNOW CRASH by Neil Stephenson is a masterpiece of science-fiction narrative, in my opinion.
What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
I wake up at 5am before the house goes crazy, and I use that quiet time to write. It’s the most productive part of my day, and usually the most creative too. It’s good to get ahead before the day catches up to you.
What is your life’s motto?
Say what you mean, do what you say.
Our theme for the 2017 Festival is Journeys. Can you tell us which journeys in your life have been most memorable?
There are many journeys. The creative journey of bringing an idea to the page is that one that never ceases to amaze me. The intellectual journey of solving problems that involves many moving parts is always fascinating. The emotion journey I experienced becoming a father was the most astounding of my life so far. As for the physical journeys, I think there’s never a more beautiful journey that the one that takes you home.
